The Early Screening Inventory, Third Edition – Preschool (ESI-3 P) and Early Screening Intervention Kindergarten (ESi - 3 K) are a gentle, play-based screening tool designed for children ages 3 years to 4 years and 5 months. It helps us get a quick snapshot of your child’s development across key areas without pressure, testing, or judgment.

How It's Used

This screening is typically done to help identify children who may benefit from extra support or a closer look at their development. It’s not a test it’s a way to make sure we’re catching any concerns early, when support can make the biggest difference. The session takes about 15–20 minutes and feels more like play than anything formal.

Who Created It?

The ESI-3 was developed by Samuel J. Meisels, a nationally recognized expert in early childhood assessment, along with his colleagues. It’s backed by decades of research and widely used across the country.

How Is It Administered?

During a short, one-on-one session, we explore three areas of development:

• Thinking and Language Skills – How your child communicates, understands, and solves problems

• Fine Motor and Problem-Solving – How they use their hands to draw, build, and explore

• Gross Motor Skills – How they move their body, balance, and coordinate big movements

At Milestone Metrics, we believe in strengths-based care. That means we focus on what your child can do and build from there. Our goal is to empower you with clear, compassionate information so you feel confident in supporting your child’s development.
